General use, or qualitative filter paper, is made of cellulose fiber. It's manufactured from high-quality cotton linters treated to maximize alpha cellulose (the most stable form of cellulose).
There are several different grades, and they're organized by properties like:
The most common qualitative paper grades, according to the experts at Cytiva (the manufacturer of Watson filters) are 1-6, 595, 597, 598, and 602, with applications across dozens of industries.
Qualitative and quantitative filter paper contain a high percentage of alpha cellulose.
The difference is in the ash content. The non-volatile substances in the material. Qualitative papers might contain ash around 0.06%. Quantitative papers are acid treated to reduce ash to less than 0.01%
Low ash content is ideal for quantitative analysis. The filter paper can be burned after sample collection, leaving a predictable residue and making downstream measurements straightforward.
We keep good stock of ashless, hardened low ash, and hardened ashless quantitative filter paper.
We won't treat you like a number, because we don't want to be treated like a faceless supplier.
Relationships go a long way in the lab.
And we have 80+ year relationships with many of your preferred manufacturers. Which means you get realistic and honest ETAs on product availability.
If the supply chain doesn't work with your timeline, we won't lead you on. We'll tell you, then find good alternatives that fit your need. So you don't have to waste time searching.
It saves you the legwork and keeps your lab productive when others are waiting for orders that are still 6-months away.
Tell us what you need. We'll tell you when you can actually get it, and give you the alternatives that can get to you sooner.
